The beach
Westward Ho!
Westward Ho! sits on the North Devon run. Swell, wind and tide for this beach and the neighbours, so you can pick a peak before you leave the car park. Today is cloud, 16°, 1kt SE.
Pebble-to-sand beach with a decent peak on a west swell and far fewer people than the Croyde triangle.
Needs a drop in tide. Can get a useful left off the pebbles on a bigger day.
Faces W. Best swell WSW–NW. Level: all. Crowd: quiet.

Parking
Northam Burrows Country Park sits next to the beach: Torridge day rate £8, evening £4. North Devon Surf School is 50 metres from the sand and notes public parking beside the centre.
Hire & lessons
North Devon Surf School at 1 Pebbleridge Road, purpose-built centre since 1988, about 50 metres from the beach, with shop, café, changing, hire and lessons.
Vibe
The school treats Westward Ho! as a learner beach: a flatter face, slower-breaking waves than Croyde, and far fewer people than the triangle. Family lessons and hire, not a contest peak.
Access & hazards
The school says rips are usually smaller here than on the more hollow beaches, with RNLI cover through the summer. The Met Office still rates Westward Ho! a high risk of rips, treat that as the hazard line. Torridge: lifeguards 10am–6pm from the third weekend in May to the last weekend in September, including Sandymere at the Burrows end. Needs a drop in tide; high water sits on the pebble ridge.
