Free National Trust car park at the beach, dawn-dusk. No overnight parking or camping. Not suitable for coaches. Toilets at the beach park. Gupton Farm parking is for staying guests only.

Outer Reef: host of the Welsh National Surfing Championships since the 1960s, a competitive beach, plus beginner, family, improver and advanced coaching when conditions allow. National Trust: wild beach, popular with experienced surfers.

Access & hazards

Outer Reef: strong rip currents; for the more experienced surfer and swimmer unless with a local provider; beginners only in suitable conditions. National Trust quotes RNLI Lead Lifeguard Supervisor Chris Rigby: large breaking waves, rip currents, submerged rocks and sandbanks. Met Office: high risk of rips. Lifeguards in the summer holiday window only (Outer Reef: early June-September).
